Rufous-crowned Roller

Coracias naevius ssp naevius

Description:

Also known as Purple Rollers. Book descriptions called them dull in color, and I disagree... The crown is rufous, with a black line behind the eye, and white stripes on the chest. Predominant color is beige, with greenish shine on wing covers and blue-green tail. The subspecies pictured here is also called Lilac-throated Roller (not to be confused with famous Lilac-breasted).

Habitat:

The species is widespread in all sub-Saharan Africa, subspecies naevius in Northern part. Here seen in forested area near water.
