Banded woolly bear

Habitat:

Crossing a gravel road in the prairie.

Notes:

This caterpillar is commonly found in cold regions including the arctic. Woolly bear caterpillars need to feed for several summers since the seasons are so short. The woolly bear will freeze solid during the winter. Some living more than ten years before becoming a moth.
