Upper side of wings bright orange with black markings. Underside as pictured, hind wing with greenish sheen and large silver spots, making this a distinctive butterfly

Habitat:

Higher elevations in mountains of the western U.S.

Notes:

This specimen was found in a meadow at Stratton Open Space in Colorado Springs.
