A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Anax junius
One of the most common dragonflies of North America. Thorax green, abdomen with black dorsal stripe that becomes wider toward tip. Both male and female has "bulls-eye" pattern on face.
Lakes and all but smallest ponds, also slow streams. Because of migratory nature, liable to be seen anywhere at or away from water. Flies April - Oct. in Ohio.
I spotted this large dragonfly resting in the yard. I have seen swarms of these dragonflies hunting in the yard several times.

Thank you for the info Geodialist.
Both male- and female CGDs have a "bulls-eye" on their face. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/127... I think you photographed a teneral male (blue pruinescence is just starting to "bloom" on its abdomen).
