Spriranthes longilabris
Terrestrial orchid that promote cross-fertilization by having freshly opened flowers deny the insects access to nectar; yet manage to attach some pollen on their back. Mature flowers, on the other hand, provide access to the nectar reward. The insect is forced to dip deep into the flower depositing the pollen onto the stigma where it finally receives some nectar.
Terrestrial orchid found in open prairies and pine flat woods among sedges.
