Green-winged Teal Duck (female)

Anas crecca

Description:

The female is brown similar to a female mallard. The small size and green speculum are distinguishing features.

Habitat:

This female swam up next to the male in one of the few unfrozen ponds at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. The chestnut colored head of the male is just visible behind her head. She did display her green speculum nicely.
