Reddish Brown Bitter Bolete

Tylopilus rubrobrunneus

Description:

Large mushroom (5 inch cap) with a misshapen cap that had a purplish brown color and was very soft-leathery. Stem was brown and reticulate. The flesh and stem were very tough, and the pores were covered in tiny flies.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a deciduous forest next to a river.
