Epargyreus clarus
Large skipper, easily identified by silver spot on underside of hind wing.
Found this specimen in a butterfly garden at Tucson Botanical Gardens.
This butterfly normally occurs in Arizona at very high elevations, so spotting this one on the desert floor was highly unusual according to Jim Brock, principal author of the "Kaufman Field Guide to Butterflies of North America."
