Sleepy Duskywing skipper

Erynnis brizo

Description:

Medium-sized skipper, relatively non-descript.

Habitat:

This one was spotted on a flowering shrub at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, typical Sonoran Desert habitat.

Notes:

This butterfly normally occurs in Arizona at high elevations, so spotting this one on the desert floor was highly unusual according to Jim Brock, principal author of the "Kaufman Field Guide to Butterflies of North America."
