Jumping Spider

Rhene sp.

Description:

Saw an amazing thing on our Sunday walk. On closely seeing the web made by the spider in between 2 top leaves, we could see 2 openings. On closer inspection of the web we saw the male sitting on top of the female. But, this was not a mating scene. In fact the web was made in such a way that the lower compartment or room was occupied by the female and the top was occupied by the male. Whether this structure was made by the male or female and what purpose does it solve is a mystery. Any help with details on the same is appreciated. The first pic shows another male on a leaf. The second pic shows the openings of the web and the third and the fourth pic shows the male and the female in the web. It was difficult to take clearer pictures due to the position of the web.

Habitat:

Seen at a small forest near a river.
