Differential Grasshopper

Melanoplus differentialis

Description:

A Lily Pad Hopper aka Grasshopper who has lost their way, perhaps?

Habitat:

On lily pads on the (fresh) water of Lake Emma

Notes:

To me it looks like a typical grasshopper but around this time I was finding a lot of them on the actual lily pads floating on the lake and easily 1/2 a city block away from earth or grass. Not sure why a grasshopper would go out on the lake but perhaps they lay their eggs in the water like dragonflies...?
