very large, at least 1 ft long

Habitat:

This amazing mom was digging a nest to lay eggs. We did not want to disturb her so we did not tarry. There was a large pond nearby at the Florida Botanical Gardens. She dug her hole right next to a fence lining a parking lot.

P. nelsonii are identified by cusps on the upper lip. You can see the lips in photo one, and there are no cusps. http://www.empireoftheturtle.com/Florida...
