How nice to have a male goldfinch as your first spotting on Project Noah - welcome to the Project!
Carduelis tristis is another name that this species has gone by (synonym), but I believe Spinus tristis is the current accepted scientific name. The proper common name for this lovely species is American Goldfinch (though it is often called the other names as well). :-)
