Peirates punctorius
A dull grey beetle about 18mm long with segmented appearance to its abdomen (slightly like reduviidae?) small head and relatively long, fine antennae.
On footpath asphalt in outer suburbia.
This creature moved very quickly and was difficult to snap. Assassin mouthparts can just be seen tucked under the head in pic #2. Peirates punctorius looks very close to correct ID... http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_... http://lifeunseen.com/index2_item_960.ph... Similar one seen here... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/113...

Ha! These 'homemade' common names are fun though Martin - while they last. You're right of course - I should have looked at the mouthparts tucked under in pic 2. Thanks.
Sorry Argy Bee. Not a footpath beetle but a ground bug ;)
Its a wingless ground assassin bug. The Brisbane link may not be the exact species, I am not sure. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/113...

Looks like an alien from old Dr Who episodes..!
