Choerocoris paganus
I saw several of these small but very colourful nymphs on the Sundew Track in Onkaparinga River National Park, South Australia. They were about 8mm long and the underside was almost as colourful as the back! The last shot shows the bug on my sister's hand in the sun - we were trying to get the sun to show up the colours but, surprisingly, the sunlight washed the colours out. The shaded shots show the colours much better. A big thanks to martinl and asergio for assistance with the ID. Great series!
I'm making a tentative ID of Red Jewel Bug (Choerocoris paganus) going on the info from this South Australian website: http://www.ellura.info/Insect.html
Thanks Stephen, I was just about to say that! : )
Thank you, Stephen. One more for my aussie vocabulary! :-)
the term heaps=a lot
BTW, what is heaps?
Actually, there are stink bugs and shield bugs, both in the family Pentatomoidea. Even experts have a hard time trying to ID them properly. So, I'd take a look at the shield bugs too.
Thanks heaps. I'm redirecting my research accordingly... still not having much luck finding an ID though!!
This is also a stink bug nymph.
