Black Garden Ant

Lasius niger

Description:

They pollinate the Peony flowers, fight off pests, and the most interesting thing I observed about them is they will farm aphids, allowing them to suck the juices from my Rough Blazing Star, and Meadow Blazing Stars (liatris)!!!! Though they don't seem to do much damage to the plants, so I allow that to continue so they get there nutrition back into there colony.

Notes:

If you try to touch the aphids you will be attacked by the defending (farmer) Ants, kinda funny but amazingly smart! Call it a Pollinator or not ,these ants do pollinate certain plants around here.
