Description:

All-black and red body (no silver markings on side of thorax), and orange wings are distinctive for this part of the U.S.

Habitat:

Open field with grasses, yucca, sunflower, prickly-pear cacti, and scattered elm trees.

Notes:

This wasp is settling down to "sleep" in the characteristic posture of this genus of wasps.
