Harlequin flower beetle

Gymnetis thula

Description:

This was a new beetle for me. The first two pics are of a white form that looks like someone dropped some black paint on top of it. Pic 3 is a yellow form. Size: 16-21 mm. Bugguide in the reference shows both color forms.

Habitat:

Spotted on a log with "banana brew" a sweet paste made by the National Butterfly Center. The adult Harlequin flower beetle feeds on rotting/ripe fruit, syrup and sap flows on false willow, Baccharis neglecta.
