Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Archilochus colubris

Description:

Female green and white with some black on tail feathers.

Habitat:

Wooded areas and edges of woods, especially at flowers or nectar feeders.

Notes:

One of many Ruby-throateds that visit my yard during the summer months. I was photographing the lotus and didn't even realize that the hummingbird was in the shot until I saw the image later on the computer.

Thank you Ashish and Maria. And yes Maria, the lotus was huge compared to the hummingbird. I think that's why I didn't think a hummer would ever nectar from a lotus. But I was wrong. I've seen it several times since then.

It looks so tiny compared to the lotus - great shot!

Diane, this photo just took my breath away. One of my most favorites on PN! It must have been a great surprise to see the hummingbird in the photo unexpectedly!
