Tringa semipalma
Shoreline bird. In the winter this bird can be pretty dull in color. From a light brown or buff to sometimes looking gray with lighter spot in front of the eyes. Grey to black, long, straight bill. Light grayish long legs and black tips on wings. When in flight, it shows off the black and white bands on the wings. Neck can look short when relaxed but actually can stretch out. Breeding plumage is more of a mottled gray, brown, and black.
Found in beaches, mudflats, tidal ponds and rocky shores
Spotted the bird in the first photo in a tidal stream flowing into the marsh and the second in the bay waters south end of Alameda island.
