Anas platyrhynchos
There are actually over 100 species of "wild duck" not including sub-species or hybrids, so the term wild duck can be very misleading and should not be used for identification. Common names are generally in the local language, so in this case "Canard Colvert" would be the correct Common Name. It is definitely not true to say that a wild duck is a Mallard as it couls be one of mre than a hundred different species.
This is one of the most common duck in Alsace, it is called "Canard Colvert". I'm so used to see that I did not think to specify that it was a couple.
thank you both
The first two pictures show the male, the brownish one in the other pictures is the female.
