Giant crab spider

Olios giganteus

Description:

Size: Body length of mature female from 14.6 to 48 mm (average of 31.6); males 11.3-29.4 mm (average of 25). Color: Overall mottled pale brown or gray; abdomen with a noticeable ‘heart mark’ that is bordered with a thin black line. Chelicerae (jaws) dark brown. Eyes: Eye arrangement typical of giant crab spiders (family Sparassidae). Total of eight eyes. Legs: Laterigrade, meaning “twisted” at the base so as to be oriented in a horizontal plane rather than a vertical plane. This gives the spider a decidedly crab-like appearance. Leg span varies from 50-64 mm. Body: Body dorsoventrally flattened (flattened from top to bottom), allowing the spider to slip into thin cracks and crevices. (information from http://www.spiders.us/species/olios-giga... )

Notes:

Also known as the golden huntsman spider.
