Thanks rat.tumour & JohnE.Ringo. My inclination is to go with Hygrocybe miniata on the basis of the color, the size & the flatted stipe which would all seem to match here.

A photo of the gills might be useful to tell between the two. Another possibility might be Hygrocybe coccinea http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/D... but the cap might be too small to be this also I'm not sure whether H. coccinea is 'scurfy' as with your spotting
