Terrapene ornata ornata
A relatively small terrestrial turtle. The carapace is normally black or dark brown and decorated with yellow stripes.
Spotted at the edge of a gravel road at the Bosque Del Apache NWR in New Mexico. Mixed habitats nearby include wetlands, riparian forests, desert scrub, and open forests with grassland (see pic 3).
