Edible dormouse (Δασομυωξός)

Glis glis subsp. argenteus

Description:

My adopted dormice babies (Glis glis subsp. argenteus), Aristarchos and his brothers and sisters, came to me when their mother was forcibly evicted from a mountain hut, in mount Pelion. She never came back for her babies, although I intervened to the mountain hutt supervisor so that she will be allowed to remain in the property and raise her babies until they would be able to leave. Their survival required hand feeding, and as a wildlife volunteer, I was allowed to take them and raise them at my house, because they needed 24/7 care. They were released in the wild few months later, all of them, except from my beloved Aristarchos, who had to stay under my care, due to his incurable disease (he was unable to use his front legs), and he died in my hands, 3 years later.

Notes:

The species is endemic and protected by the Greek law. We don't hunt them or eat them, here.

Thank you dear @Alicelongmartin, me and my family and our friends at the wildlife center, we tried our best for these little babies (and for all the animals that came to us), and eventually we were able to release them in the wild. As about Aristarhos, he was my baby, and I hope he was able to feel how much I loved him, and I hope he loved me too...
