They get their name from their love of their favorite prey, the Gopher.

Habitat:

They prefer drier habitats such as meadows, fields and agricultural farmland, and are seldom found in dense forests.

Not that I noticed. I think it got that weird looking shimmer from a combination of well applied dirt and heavy sunshine. but i really don't know that much about snakes.
