Fomes Fomentarius
Polyporaceae, Aphullophorales. Woody, dark grayish-brown, wide, hood-shaped; gray to gray-brown or graypblack, with dark brown sones; dry, velvety to smooth, with hard horney, thick crust. Flesh 0.3-3 cm, thick; dark tan to brown.
Season: Year-round. On dead deciduous trees or wounds in living trees; including maple, birch, and cherry. This common, hoof-shaped conk is known in Europe as "Amadou", and has been used there for centuries as a kind of punkwood for the quick ignition of fires. It has also been used in the cauterization of wounds.
Thanks for helping me. Fomes fomentarius (commonly known as the Tinder Fungus, Hoof Fungus, Tinder Conk, Tinder Polypore or Ice Man Fungus).
