Ulu (Breadfruit) tree

Artocarpus altilis

Description:

Hawaiian locals call the breadfruit tree "ulu". The fruits are edible. They are normally large, green and bumpy. When the fruits ripen, they sweeten and many times taste like freshly baked bread, or potatoes. This tree had so many fruits that a few had fallen to the ground and begun to rot.

Habitat:

Breadfruit grows on most Pacific islands.
