Giant African land snail

Achatina fulica

Description:

The Giant African land snail is also known as the East African land snail. A very large terrestrial mollusc with a shell about 2.5" long. It is considered to be one of the world's top 100 invasive species. In the wild, it often carries a parasitic nematode responsible for meningitis in humans. Therefore, it is generally not safe to handle these mollusks without protection and good hygiene practices.

Habitat:

Seen near lush tropical vegetation (bananas, ulu and avocado trees).

Notes:

The snail presumably died, dried up and left behind its shell in the grass.
