Project Noah Nature School
Lagria vulnerata
Spotted on a dry palm frond. About 11 mm long.
You can say that again. I'm constantly amazed at the variety. I've spotted more than 180 of my spottings just here on my property of 30m x 50 m.
Hi Johan, it sure is listed as a Teneb, remarkable clerid-like Teneb! :) You have such wonderful and unusual insects in South Africa.
Hi Lauren, I'm positive that this is a Hairy Darkling Beetle. My reference is "Field Guide to Insects of South Africa" By Mike Picker, Charles Griffiths, Alan Weaving
This looks more like a Clerid Beetle...they are often hairy as well.
