Southern yellow-shafted flicker

Colaptes auratus auratus

Description:

This spotting is my 3500 in total and my 13th spotting of the 22 woodpecker species in North America. The southern yellow-shafted flicker has yellow under the tail and underwings and has yellow shafts on their primaries. Males have a black mustache.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Lorance Creek Wildlife Area in Arkansas. The area is full of diverse ecosystems and habitats of swamps, and bottomlands which include bottomland hardwood forests and forested wetland swamps, streams and seeps, open water, and beaver ponds.

Thank you so much Sukanya. It's certainly a goal of mine to find as many of them as I can.

Congratulations Brian. I have been admiring your Woodpecker spottings for a while now. 13 out of 22 is over 50 per cent. Fantastic! Looking forward to 22 out of 22. Good Luck!
