Spotting

Hi Augusto,
This is a beautiful butterfly, but as you know, it is impossible to see the colours when the image is a silhouette. So, I checked the number of species in the genus Pteronymia (I was hoping that there was only one so that your idea of “Pteronymia medellina” would be correct). However, according to Wikipedia, there are 42 species and I think that they are all in South America and no pictures available. So, it might be best (if you agree) that you use the details in my Species ID Suggestion to complete your Spotting to Genus level only. If you agree, then other Project Noah members (who see a butterfly like yours) will know immediately that it is a Pteronymia sp. and that could be very helpful.

Esta es una hermosa mariposa, pero como sabes, es imposible ver los colores cuando la imagen es una silueta. Entonces, verifiqué el número de especies del género Pteronymia (esperaba que hubiera una sola para que tu idea de “Pteronymia medellina” fuera correcta). Sin embargo, según Wikipedia, hay 42 especies y creo que todas están en Sudamérica y no hay fotografías disponibles. Por lo tanto, podría ser mejor (si está de acuerdo) que utilice los detalles de mi Sugerencia de identificación de especies para completar su Detección hasta el nivel de Género únicamente. Si está de acuerdo, otros miembros del Proyecto Noah (que vean una mariposa como la suya) sabrán inmediatamente que se trata de una Pteronymia sp. y eso podría ser muy útil. Feliz navidad, Augusto.
