Rose Chafer Beetle (male)

Protaetia aurichalcea

Description:

I found one of these beetles eating my roses yesterday, and today I found round balls of hard mud in my compost heap and when I broke them open, found a mature beetle in one, and an immature one in another. Rose chafer larvae overwinter in the soil and pupate in the spring.

Habitat:

Found in my compost heap.
