Feral pig

Sus scrofa

Description:

This large, well-fed feral pua'a, as the locals say, was sleeping and some loud people woke it up. Feral pigs are very common on all of the Hawaiian islands. They represent a threat to native flora and fauna.

Habitat:

Seen in a zoo enclosure. Otherwise, feral pigs are rampant throughout the rainforests of Hawaii. S. scrofa is not native to America.

Notes:

I've seen a few feral pigs in the wild, but they are just too quick to capture on camera. When they live in the tropics, their breeding session is protracted, and especially peaks in the wet season.
