Gray Squirrel

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

A large tree squirrel that has mostly grayish fur, a white belly, and a large bushy tail. They can also have somewhat brownish fur.

Habitat:

Very adaptable, these squirrels are native to southern and eastern parts of Canada and parts of the States. They have also been introduced to Britain. This one was spotted in Toronto, and wasn't afraid of me at all, happy to munch away at a peanut someone threw to it.

Notes:

These guys hide and store away food for later retrieval, and can make hundreds of little caches a season. They have a very accurate spatial memory for retrieval.
