Red Harvester Ant

Description:

A large bright red or orange ant that lives in colonies underground.

Habitat:

The nest entrances are usually conspicuously stripped of nearby vegetation.

Notes:

These ants have a painful bite, which I did not want to demonstrate for this spotting.
