Numenius americanus
coastal marsh
If you look closely, you can see the curlews sitting down in the reddish vegetation. Their bills are quite impressive. I assume they were incubating eggs? If you ever wonder how they can possibly fly with a bill that size, then you should know that their bills are actually quite light.

I haven't had the chance to hear their call, I will look it up on xeno-canto.
It sure is!
is this Bolsa Chica?
Have you heard their call? They make their presence known!
Your welcome!
Very good, Joshua. Thanks for the info. Need to go back sometime and check it out!
Thanks! The Bolsa Chica Conservancy does mention that Long-billed Curlew breed there.
Nice spotting Joshua but I think that Long-billed Curlews have traditionally nested in the uplands rather than on the coast. Would be happy to hear from anyone that knows that they do nest in coastal marshes in the LA area.
