Green June Beetle

Cotinis nitida

Description:

Large scarab beetle. Velvety green coloration (variable coloration for the species) with a yellowish-brown edge. Metallic green head and tibiae (lower parts of legs). First beetle has some hitchhiking Phoretic Mites.

Habitat:

Suburban garden.

Notes:

These big guys were buzzing around a corner of the yard for a few weeks. Not sure exactly where they were landing regularly.
