Cotinis nitida
Large scarab beetle. Velvety green coloration (variable coloration for the species) with a yellowish-brown edge. Metallic green head and tibiae (lower parts of legs). First beetle has some hitchhiking Phoretic Mites.
Suburban garden.
These big guys were buzzing around a corner of the yard for a few weeks. Not sure exactly where they were landing regularly.

Great spotting! I really want to see these beetles sometime! The mites are interesting, too!
