Great mullein

Verbascum thapsus

Description:

Very tall plants with small yellow flowers on the vertical spike and an interesting, curly shape.

Habitat:

Verbascum thapsus has a wide native range including Europe, northern Africa and Asia, the Canary Islands to western China, the British Isles, Scandinavia and Siberia, and the Himalayas. The plant prefers disturbed soils with lots of sunlight. These individuals were seen on Mauna Kea, at altitude ~8900 ft.

Notes:

Although great mullein was introduced to Hawaii, it rarely acts as an uncontrollable invasive.
