Grey-sided flowerpecker

Dicaeum celebicum

Description:

A male grey-sided flower pecker, native to Sulawesi is feeding on an exotic Jamaica cherry (Muntingia calabura). It is amazing to see the bird prick the fruit (in the picture), pick it from the branch, uphold it almost vertically, and drink the sugary liquid flowing from the fruit. Who has taught them to develop the technique? I don't think that there is any other species like Jamaica cherry in the region.
