A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Cotinis sp.
Dozens (if not hundreds) of these large larva came out of the ground and were crawling around the parking lot at my work for several days. It may have been related to aeration of the soil in the adjacent grassy area. The larvae of this genus of beetles crawl on their backs not unlike how caterpillars move, but in an upside-down fashion. I thought there was something wrong with them at first. If you have never seen them move before, it is WEIRD!
