gold fronted woodpecker

Melanerpes aurifrons

Description:

A stripe-backed woodpecker of Mexico and Central America, the Golden-fronted Woodpecker reaches the United States only in the brushlands and open woodlands of Texas and Oklahoma. This was one species we saw in nearly every location, however, this was the one time we were close and able to really see them

Habitat:

Tikal National park: a tree in the parking area

Notes:

I love striped backed or ladder backed woodpeckers, because we don't have them in Oregon. I'm torn between the first two pictures as my favorite

Thank you both! The 4th one wouldn't stand up to enlarging, but I do like it :)
