Bald Eagle (Juvenile)

Description:

After talking with some friends, I believe this to be a juvenile molting into a 2nd year. The 2nd year starts to get lots of white on its underside, but the fact that this bird still has an all dark tail makes me want to say it is still a juvenile in the transition stage.

Habitat:

They are found in all of North America at various times of the year and can be found in open habitats.

Notes:

This was just one bird of the 9 eagles we had near us. There was a group of 4 with one adult, another group of 4 with one adult, and one adult perched. There was a pond nearby with thousands of geese and the geese were getting very nervous and all stirred up, we stuck around for about 30 minutes watching the eagles, but I think it was going to be a case where the adults were teaching the immatures how to hunt. Just wish we had time to stay around to see if that was what actually happened!
