Ipomoea batatas

Ipomoea batatas

Description:

When cut, the hua (tuber) smells very fragrant. The variety looks like what is called "iliahi" in some of the botanical collections. Note that "iliahi" is not documented as an old ʻuala name in Handy Bulletin 161 or Hawaiian newspapers.

Habitat:

Wet, in raised bed near irrigated loʻi.

Notes:

Planted in Waiheʻe from cuttings from someone who got it from someone who had found it around Kaupō; no name or other specifics provided at the time.
