Bematistes alcinoe

Bematistes alcinoe

Description:

Bematistes macaria, the Black-spot Bematistes, is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. It is found in Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Ghana.

Habitat:

The habitat consists of wetter forests.

Notes:

Spotted passing the night on a palm in my backyard. It was a surprise. Once, I've seen a Common Acraea at dusk fly very high up into a palm. Many butterflies like to lodge in trees like this. Birds also.
