Asian openbill stork

Anastomus oscitans

Habitat:

Nesting colony on roadside trees. Urban area with high volume of traffic.

Notes:

A nesting colony has existed at least for the past 50 years, quite likely going much further back. I have seen this colony since early 1980's, people of my father's generation remember seeing it since their childhood. An interesting fact is that the nesting trees are confined to the District Collectorate, Court and immediate vicinity, where they have always received high degree of protection. Conservatively, 25-50 pairs may be nesting here.
