Weaver Ants

Oecophylla smaragdina

Description:

These ants are approximately 1 cm in length and 0.5 cm wide. Their bodies are a reddish brown color and so are their legs. They have three body parts: the head, thorax (which has three parts), and abdomen. The antennae were very long (almost as long as its legs) but thinner and caramel colored. They have sharp-edged mandibles that move from side to side.

Habitat:

These Weaver Ants were living in a park in Singapore. The climate there was quite cloudy, since it was late afternoon, and the ants were in a place that was partially shaded.
