Ursus americana
Black bears are medium-sized bears found in North America. The term "black" is a bit of a misnomer as these bears may be brown (cinammon), black, or even white (Kermode). Black bears may weight as much as 600 pounds, but most are much smaller. Males tend to be larger than the females.
Forests of North America.
This is a two-year-old brown phase black bear. Just out on his own, his status within the bear community is the lowest it will ever be. Other bears are a threat as a cub will be backed up by its sow and older bears are larger and stronger. As a result, these young bears are extremely timid around other bears. This young bear is crouching and getting ready to run as another bear approaches.
