Carduelis tristis
A common Winter resident here in the Coastal Plain, but uncommon Spring-Fall. In nonbreeding plumage, the male is a drab yellow-brown, but after the peak of Winter, they start to molt into their alternate plumage, a bright buttery gold! This male in transition plumage was seen at my feeder in January.

I think I missed them this year. Had a finch sock out, but appeared there were no takers.
