Chen caerulescens
Snow geese come in two color phases; the so-called blue goose, which is dark with a light colored head and the more typical white goose with black wingtips. There are two subspecies; greater (C. c. atlanticus) and lesser (C. c. caerulescens).
These birds nest north of the treeline in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions and winter in numerous locations along the US west and east coasts as well as the mid and lower Mississippi River valley.
